Lucent Unveils Multimedia Access Platform

Lucent Technologies today unveiled the Lucent Multimedia Access Platform that enables service providers to offer high-bandwidth video/IPTV, VoIP and multimedia services.

The platform supports DSL services, FTTx and WiMAX wireless broadband in a single frame, based on the Advanced Telecommunications Computing Architecture standard. It complements Lucent's IMS technology, which SBC Communications Inc. said yesterday it is using.

Lucent’s new platform offers up to 10 gigabits per slot on the backplane and Layer 2, Layer 3 and advanced packet processing capabilities. It also has built-in hardware support for IPv6.

"The Lucent Multimedia Access Platform makes this possible by supporting broadband services over copper, fiber and wireless, delivered with the quality of service that consumers expect from traditional telecom services, all in a platform that can be expanded to meet the needs of the largest, most demanding service providers."
