Redback Networks Inc. said yesterday that Seednet, Taiwan's second-largest ISP, has deployed the SmartEdge Service Gateway platform for its broadband network, which will provide video, voice and advanced data services throughout Taiwan.
The IPTV service, Digital Family Center, offers more than 200 channels and combines analog and digital video programming. In addition to traditional broadcast entertainment, the service also includes personalized, on-demand video for feature length films and television shows.
Taiwan has extremely advanced broadband services with consumer service speeds of up to 12mbps. In June 2004, the Taiwanese government initiated a nationwide broadband adoption program and has allocated billions of dollars to construct a nationwide broadband network. The project will be deployed in phases that started in 2004 and will run through 2010.
