Service-centric performance management software company InfoVista (Booth 222) announces the launch of VistaInsight for Servers 2.0. VistaInsight for Servers is the latest version of InfoVista’s performance management solution for maximizing server and system infrastructure investments in enterprise data centers.
VistaInsight for Servers includes monitoring and troubleshooting capabilities that enable enterprises to proactively remedy impending capacity issues and pre-emptively resolve service-level violations. The upgrades have been developed to help IT departments and MSPs increase server utilization rates and lower the cost of infrastructure resources while leveraging current investments in native host and external agent software.
VistaInsight for Servers 2.0 also provides a reporting foundation for companies aiming to improve server utilization through virtualization -- the growing trend in data center management whereby applications and systems are consolidated on a single physical server that is divided into multiple logical “virtual” servers.
“Performance management is a critical first step in any capacity planning initiative, particularly as companies adopt virtualization and other consolidation strategies,” says Debra Curtis, research vice president of IT operations management at Gartner. “The best solutions allow organizations to right-size their IT resources by providing access to both historical and real-time information and embrace an approach that emphasizes the management of IT as a service.”
Leveraging a service-centric approach to capacity planning at its core, VistaInsight for Servers provides views not only into the performance of a particular server resource but also into the service or application running on each server or cluster and the business group or process that it supports. The new features incorporated in 2.0 support a holistic view of resource utilization, enabling enterprises to address capacity planning, service management and problem resolution in a comprehensive and proactive manner.
“As some organizations struggle with server utilization rates as low as 5 percent, VistaInsight for Servers 2.0 provides an opportunity to drastically improve the bottom line by maximizing existing IT investments,” says InfoVista CTO Manuel Stopnicki. “InfoVista’s service-centric software is proven to reduce operating risk, improve business effectiveness and lower total cost of operations.”
"VistaInsight for Servers 2.0 takes server management to the next level, helping us to align IT with business goals through capacity planning, service level reporting and cross-silo coverage," remarks Patrice Garault, performance and availability manager for Natexis Banques Populaires. "Because InfoVista offers superior performance management capabilities built around a service-centric approach, we can anticipate and solve infrastructure problems before they happen, helping our business units make better decisions more quickly and delivering an enhanced end-user experience across the enterprise."
VistaInsight for Servers 2.0 is a packaged, fully automated solution and includes the following upgrades and enhancements focused on service-centric management:
• Expanded agent coverage with greater support for additional technologies and vendors, including Micromuse SSM, BMC Patrol and NetSNMP. This enables data center managers and MSPs to create a seamless unified view of service or resource performance regardless of the different modes of data collection and acquisition.
• Advanced group management for an enterprise-wide view of performance across service and business lines. Advanced group management makes it possible to manage server, application and related network resource usage by business or service groups, incorporating specific department, location, service or technology attributes at multiple levels of aggregation.
• Management by end-user experience to prioritize server investments and operational response by the impact on the business end user. MSPs and internal IT groups are able to better align technology resources with business needs by correlating changes to infrastructure to the visible and measured effect on application delivery. This allows IT departments to justify and support server investments aligned with business operations.
• Optimizing capacity through application-centric management of computing resources. MSPs or IT departments can measure server resource consumption (e.g., CPU, memory, availability) by single or grouped application processes running on one or more servers. Organizations can identify and reconcile applications that require the most resources with detailed visibility into server capacity.
VistaInsight for Servers works on a common foundation with other service-centric InfoVista solutions, including VistaInsight for Networks, to provide a complete cross-silo view into the performance of services and supporting infrastructure components.
