BelAir Networks has formed a wireless mesh and cable technical advisory board to accelerate the development and use of wireless technologies.
The company particularly is working to get cable operators interested in the effort, as those providers have been expanding their networks and services to include wireless.
“With a broadband network in place, and strong uptake of voice over IP services, cable operators are well-positioned to capitalize on wireless mesh technologies for mobile voice, video and data,” explained Bernard Herscovich, president and CEO of BelAir Networks. “In creating the Technical Advisory Board, BelAir aims to generate a better understanding of how wireless mesh technologies can be successfully integrated into cable operators’ existing businesses offerings.”
Phil Belanger, BelAir’s vice president of marketing, will chair the group. Belanger also is a founding chairman of the Wi-Fi Alliance.
The inaugural meeting of the technical advisory board will take place at this week’s SCTE Conference on Emerging Technologies in Tampa, Fla.
“[W]e wanted to take the next step and chart the integrated wireless and cable network – adding mobile services to the cable operators’ network,” said Belanger. “We look forward to working with the board to support the technical and business information needs of the cable industry as member companies leverage wireless mesh to deliver the ‘quad play’ – voice, video, data and mobility into their networks.”
