Camellia Communications, an affiliate of Hayneville Telephony Company in Greenville, Ala., has become a facilities-based CLEC now that it has installed CopperCom Inc.’s Converged Switching eXchange (CSX) next-generation switch.

The company used to be a UNE-P reseller.

Now that incumbent providers no longer have to provide unbundled network element-platform pricing, “it was imperative that we move toward having our own facilities,” said Howard S. Powell, III, president of Camellia Communications. “We're very impressed with both CopperCom and the CSX for the ease with which we've been able to make this transition.”

The CSX offers legacy VoIP and advanced VoIP services, as well as a personalized Web interface.

Camellia Communications is managed by the Powell family. The company serves approximately 4,600 business and residential lines in Greenville and surrounding areas, including Lowndesboro, Hayneville and Gordonville, all in Alabama.
