The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) has approved the ATIS standard for account management, which incorporates the IPDR protocol, as an American National Standard for Trial Use.
The IPDR protocol is a service-neutral specification that supports billing of any packet-based service, including gaming, IPTV, VoIP, and VoD. ATIS and IPDR.org have collaborated to produce the "Usage Data Management for Packet-Based Services – Service Neutral Protocol Specification for Billing Applications," which in the wake of ANSI approval could be on its way to making the implementation of new IP-based services both efficient and cost-effective for global operator.
The ITU-T will consider the newly approved ATIS standard, integrated with the 3GPP IMS charging management solution, within its next-generation networking accounting management standardization activities.
"ATIS is a global leader in the creation of technical and operations standards for the communications and related information technologies industry worldwide," said ATIS President Susan Miller. "Our primary objective is to produce solutions that meet the true business needs of the industry. ATIS is pleased with the result of its ongoing collaboration with IPDR.org, the organization that produced the IPDR protocol as a service-neutral specification for billing of any packet-based service."
