ESPN will launch its MVNO during Sunday’s Seahawks-Steelers matchup. Mobile ESPN will support the launch with a 60-second Super Bowl commercial called “Sports Heaven,” featuring more than 20 athletes, from spelling bee champs to baseball pitchers.
The service, available initially on black-and-red Sanyo “MVP” handsets, offers users ESPN sports content and real-time updates like game highlights and scores. The phones start at $199, with airtime running between $34.99 for 100 minutes to $224.99 for 4,000 minutes. Content is included.
Mobile ESPN will run on Sprint Nextel Corp.’s EV-DO network.
