Symmetricom Inc., a maker of time and frequency products and services, has upgraded its TimeProvider network access synchronization system to version 3.0.
The new edition includes NTP server/client with MD5 authentication, new RS-422 output signals supporting 1.544MHz and 2.048MHz frequencies and an integrated IMC/TPIU card that saves rack space.
"The synchronization economics and functional requirements of access nodes differ from traditional core nodes," said Ken Lee, PRS product marketing manager for Symmetricom. "Fewer outputs, smaller footprint and lower cost points are key requirements for a small-office synchronization solution, but still must maintain the PRS accuracy and SSU/BITS features often seen in larger systems. Symmetricom’s TimeProvider 3.0 is ideally suited to meet this need.”
TimeProvider’s architecture combines the tasks of tracking incoming timing references, qualifying signals, filtering and distributing precise synchronization onto one input, output and clock card (IOC). Available in Rubidium or Quartz, a second IOC card can be added to provide full input, clock redundancy and output protection, according to Symmetricom. Local and remote provisioning and management of the TimeProvider is performed through the information management card.
