TANDBERG Television, developer of digital TV solutions, said today at NCTA it has released the OpenWorks Distributor and partnered with Arroyo Video Solutions Inc.
The OpenWorks Distributor allows MSOs to scale deployments of the latest OpenCable consumer devices and centralize the management of set-top boxes. At least one major U.S. cable operator has bought the system, TANDBERG said.
Cable operators deploy the OpenWorks Distributor in a central location, while establishing a series of local OpenWorks Distributors in regional head-ends. From the central location, operators authenticate updates for the operating system of set-top boxes as well as interactive TV applications, and then subsequently publish these updates locally to the individual regional head-ends. This allows cable operators to automate their current upgrade processes and gain more visibility and control through monitoring, reporting and update management, according to TANDBERG.
Meanwhile, the company also announced it is working with Arroyo to develop a network personal video recorder (PVR) and on-demand advertising. The companies are demonstrating the technology this week at NCTA.
The combination of TANDBERG's OpenStream Digital Services Platform and Arroyo's video networking software, Arroyo OnDemand, means operators can deploy the network PVR simply and quickly, the companies said. The solution eliminates the need for hard-drive based set-top boxes or PVRs in the home.
The advertising on-demand tool further allows fresh ads to be placed into each VoD program, using targeted marketing g to increase the value of each ad, increasing ad revenue, said TANDBERG.
