Responding to the growing bandwidth requirements of service providers as high-definition and on-demand video move onto their networks, Occam Networks Inc. has unveiled a new 10gig FTTH blade for its broadband loop carrier, the BLC 6000.

Occam on Monday also announced a home-grown line of optical network terminals (ONTs).

The company, which caters primarily with the independent telcos such as Comporium Communications, Hargray and SureWest Communications, expects to have both new products at its booth next month at Globalcomm.

Occam last year at SUPERCOMM came out with a 22-port, 1 gigabit FTTH blade called the 6312 and a residential optical network terminal called the ON 2240.

This new FTTH blade, which will be list priced at less than $20,000, is different than the one introduced last year in that it includes 16 subscriber drops and 10 gigabit ring capacity. The new FTTH blade also includes all the same security features as those offered in Occam’s existing BLC 6000 products.

And unlike the ON 2240, a larger chassis that Occam sells through an OEM deal with Telco Systems, Occam’s Vice President of Sales and Marketing Russ Sharer said this new line of ONTs offers greater integration. For example, the ON 2343 offering HPNAv3 over coax, he said. The new ONT line also includes the ON 2321 model, a low-cost solution support data only for brownfield applications, said Sharer, adding that box is expected to sell for around $100. The ONTs will be available in the second and third quarters, depending upon the model.
