The competitive environment is harsh enough for service providers, never mind worrying about equipment withstanding the, well, actual environment. APA Cables & Networks says two of its new offerings help protect providers from the harshness found in the latter.

The benefits of fiber, as it continues to be installed deeper into the outside plant, can be compromised if not adequately protected, the company said. So, it introduced a splitter encased in more ruggedized cabling materials to better insulate the fiber from environmental effects – the materials are able to withstand temperatures ranging from -55 degrees C to 85 degrees C – and handling from personnel.

APA Cables & Networks’ second new product, the Fiber Scalability Center, is a more rugged cabinet for outside plant use than the competition can offer, according to the company. The FSC, a 96-port cabinet, boasts a “one-touch” installation system and can provide an easier identification methods and better protection of jumper cables, the company said. Compatible for either pad or pole mounting, the product enables access from both the front and the back. Splitter capacity can scale with the providers’ demands.
