CLEC Broadview Networks announced on Thursday it will upgrade its core metro optical transport network in several Northeastern markets using White Rock Networks’ VLX2020 Optical Transport System.
The VLX202 is a next-generation SONET device combining a SONET ADM with a digital cross-connect and an edge Ethernet aggregation platform in a single 2RU package. White Rock announced earlier this week it has added a 10gbps VT1.5 groomer option to its VLX2020, effectively doubling its capacity (see story).
The new 10gig groomer played a role in the Broadview deployment, said Paul Forzisi, White Rock’s vice president of marketing.
“They actually deployed it in part because of our grooming capability and the scalability of our platform,” he said.
The VLX2020 replaces Broadview’s legacy cross-connect systems and increases hub site aggregation capacity and delivers Ethernet-based services.
“Broadview’s transport network has grown organically and via acquisition, but we are outgrowing it. It was time to increase capacity, replace earlier-generation gear so we can provide Ethernet-based services, and lower monthly network operating costs, especially those associated with co-location,” said Broaview CTO Ken Shulman. “The VLX2020 seems to excel in cost, footprint, consumed power, and ease of operation, but it also provides the TDM and Ethernet traffic grooming and aggregation capabilities that we need to run an efficient network.”
