Hitachi Telecom Inc. announced on Monday at GLOBALCOMM two customer deployments of its equipment.

ComSpan Bandon Networks has implemented Hitachi’s GPON offering in Bandon, Ore., and Dumont Telephone Co. will begin deployment this month of Hitachi’s GPON platform in Dumont, Iowa, the vendor said.

Both telecom providers plan to use the GPON-focused equipment – marketed as the AMN1220 FTTP platform – to provide video, data and voice services. The AMN product complies with ITU-T G.984 standards, the company said, and can see data rates up to 2.488gpbs downstream and 1.244gpbs upstream.

Dumont initially will offer the services enabled by the equipment to 100 subscribers, with broader plans to expand over its fiber optic footprint over the next seven years, according to the company. The higher bandwidth will enable the service providers to offer customers services such as HDTV as well as current cable TV over fiber optics, according to executives at Dumont.

ComSpan Bandon Networks, which is a joint venture of ComSpanUSA and Ledcor Technical Services, will have its own official kick off on June 21, when the provider will celebrate with a “Light Up Bandon” campaign. Executives at the provider say “take rates” of the service will not be disclosed until the public ceremony.
