Tekelec on Monday announced TekCore, the company’s IMS core signaling platform.
Built to 3GPP standards, TekCore provides call session control function (CSCF) capabilities to Tekelec’s market leading EAGLE 5 Integrated Signaling System (ISS), enabling SIP-based signaling and control of next-generation multimedia traffic.
TekCore is built with a server-on-a-card architecture that allows Tekelec’s global installed base of 200 EAGLE customers to leverage existing equipment while deploying next-generation services and applications.
“The introduction of the TekCore CSCF represents an important milestone in Tekelec’s IMS roadmap,” said Ronald Gruia, program leader of emerging communications at Frost & Sullivan. “Given that the ATCA architecture will be backwards compatible with the flagship EAGLE 5 ISS product, carriers will be able to evolve to a next-gen infrastructure at their own pace. The migration to IMS will be gradual, and TekCore certainly epitomizes this smooth transition being sought by most operators.”
A key component of Tekelec's portfolio of “IMS-Ready” products for next-generation networks, TekCore is in operator trials and will be commercially available in fourth quarter 2006.
