Verizon Communications Inc. has added interactive weather and traffic –dubbed FioS TV Widgets – to its FiOS TV service.
The service is available at no extra cost to customers with a set-top box. It allows subscribers to use their remote controls to show text-based weather and traffic on their screens; the features do not interrupt TV programming.
Verizon said it will add a multiroom DVR to FiOS TV Widgets later this year, as well as a feature that lets users access photos and music stored on their PCs from their televisions. Initial Widgets services will be available in northern Texas in the next several weeks.
In the meantime, Verizon also is building out its FTTP network throughout Pennsylvania so it can offer Internet access and, eventually, video.
