Verizon Communications Inc. has selected the Tellabs 7100 optical transport system to provide next-generation solutions in the backbone of its metro networks. Initially, Verizon will deploy the Tellabs 7100 system to provide reliability and efficiency in its FiOS FTTP triple-play network, the company said. It added that later, Verizon will use the Tellabs 7100 system to converge all of its core metro services onto DWDM transport.
The Tellabs 7100 system integrates optical switching via wavelength selective switches, ROADM, Ethernet switching, next-generation SONET/SDH add-drop multiplexers and DWDM into a single platform.
