IT outsourcing firm The Cipher Group has undergone an extreme makeover and is reemerging on the communication stage under the moniker SIPBox. The newly minted company is now exclusively dedicated to supplying large business customers with VoIP solutions based on Asterisk, said Chad Agate, co-founder and CEO.

“The VoIP space always excited us,” says Agate. “We were intrigued with Asterisk product line and the Asterisk solution.”

Asterisk is an open-source, software-based PBX solution from Digium Inc., which this week announced that it has put together a kit including a new appliance for use at the customer premises, along with release 1.4 of the Asterisk Business Edition software, training and engineering support. Agate said SIPBox plans to use the new appliance for its customers’ satellite office implementations.
