InterOP Technologies on Tuesday announced it has launched a new IP-based over-the-air device management (IOTA DM) platform. The product will enable carriers to set, manage, retrieve information and update settings on customers’ mobile handsets.

Device management allows the carrier access to mobile device parameters previously accessible only at the time of manufacture. IOTA DM encapsulates a fully OMA, 3GPP and 3GPP2 approved suite of standards which together provide a framework for the authentication, communication and organization of information between the mobile device and the DM server.

“We believe our IOTA DM platform offers the most robust and complete end-to-end capabilities for both GSM and CDMA operators,” said John Dwyer, InterOP Technologies president. “It’s nonproprietary and fully standards-compliant.”

Dwyer added that IOTA DM is a major step forward for carriers in managing device configuration, software updates, WAP settings, retrieving device information and processing events and alarms.

The DM server and handset exchange information over the carrier IP network utilizing an OMA defined XML schema, which is encoded into WBXML and secured utilizing 128-bit public key encryption techniques. In addition, critical software components, such as firmware upgrade over the air are protected by standards-defined challenge and response algorithms. InterOP Technologies has designed the DM platform to operate seamlessly within either a hosted or turnkey model.
