Alcatel has added two new routers to its product line. On the high end is the Alcatel 7450 ESS-12, a carrier-class Ethernet/MPLS routing platform for high bandwidth video aggregation in service provider networks.

At the low end of the product spectrum is the Alcatel 7710 SR-c4, a compact, modular multiservice edge router targeted to fixed/mobile operators and high end verticals.

The two products are basically just new versions of existing products, but in different form factors and at different prices. The 7450 ESS-12 is basically just a twelve-slot, 400gbps version of its existing Alcatel 7450 ESS while the 7710 SR-c4 is a four-slot, 9gbps version of 7710 SR Alcatel launched this March.

"This expansion of our portfolio ensures that our customers have the widest selection of IP solutions," said Basil Alwan, president of Alcatel's IP activities.
