BellSouth Corp. on Tuesday said its earnings rose during the third quarter of 2006, thanks to income from Cingular Wireless LLC, the carrier’s joint venture with AT&T Inc., and higher results from sales of high-speed Internet access. Landline subscriptions continued to fall
BellSouth and AT&T have agreed to an $80 billion merger, which the FCC is expected to approve on Nov. 3. If the deal closes, that would make the third quarter 2006 earnings results from BellSouth the company’s last.
On Tuesday, BellSouth reported its profit rose 26 percent to $1.18 billion, or 65 cents a share. Analysts had expected 58 cents a share, according to Reuters Estimates.
