RCN Corp. recently became one of the first triple-play broadband providers of cable, Internet and telephone service to go live with an additional wireless phone service offering.
RCN Wireless, powered by Mobile Pro's Close Call America wireless network, launched its commercial service in Boston. The service gives subscribers a choice of three service plans. In addition, subscribers will have a choice of three free phones, as well as free evening/weekend calling and special discount savings.
RCN cable TV customers who sign up for a wireless plan of $54 per month or higher and a two-year agreement, will get a $5 discount each month, which adds up to a savings of $120 off their RCN bill over the next two years. Subscribers to the RCN Everyday User Plan get a free phone, free first month with any rate plan $33.95 per month or higher. They also get half off of activation, a savings of $17.50. The second plan is the RCN Need More Minutes Plan which provides 100 extra anytime minutes every month with any rate plan $33.95 or higher. This plan also includes the free phone and half-off activation. Subscribers to the third plan, RCN Family Plans, receive two free phones. If they buy one accessory pack, they get the second one free. Also, with any of the RCN Wireless plans, customers get free nights and weekends, with evenings starting at 7 p.m. The plan also allows customers to keep their current cell phone numbers.
