ATIS has released its IP-based Emergency Services Network Interface (ESNI) standards to help providers expand E911 services and functionality within next-generation networks.

The guidelines include a framework for ESNI applications, such as the Emergency Information Services Interface, which provides access to services in the Emergency Services Network (ESNet). They also address the Emergency Services Messaging Interface, which provides managed interconnections between PSAPs and the ESNet.

The future ESNet consists of multiple standard protocols that support responses from various emergency events – including basic call management, location information delivery and enhanced emergency services. The ESNI suite will enable flexibility, additional emergency services and advanced interaction models on the ESNet, ATIS said.
