Verizon said Monday its FiOS TV service is now available in the Philadelphia area including 80,000 households in parts of 35 communities in Bucks, Chester, Delaware and Montgomery counties. The company said it expects that number to increase to 100,000 households by the end of the year.
Plans to offer the service in Delaware and New Jersey also were announced. Nationally, Verizon's video franchises cover approximately 5 million households in 10 states, the company said.
FiOS TV, delivered over Verizon's FTTP network, offers 200 all-digital channels, more than 20 high definition channels and up to 4,000 VoD titles.
Verizon further said it has agreed to offer Comcast SportsNet-Philadelphia for FiOS TV subscribers and described several new features that it will launch in all markets in 2007. Some of the new features include interactive video games played on the TV; an Internet portal to manage certain FiOS TV features such as channel favorites and parental controls; the ability to program the DVR with a cell phone; and access to a library of DVD-based content.
