Comcast Media Center (CMC), a business unit of Comcast Cable, and C-COR Inc. said Tuesday they are launching the turnkey VOD In a Box for operators serving 25,000 or fewer digital customers.

VOD In a Box includes C-COR’s On Demand server, software management platform and the C-COR n5C compact video server platform. Such a product bodes well for smaller telcos, who complain that infrastructure costs associated with big VoD servers are keeping them from getting into the business. VOD In a Box offers approximately 1,000 hours of premium, pay and free content programming that will be aggregated and managed by CMC.

CMC’s service allows a cable system to accept content from multiple sources without having to coordinate, manage and manipulate the content at each headend.
