Switching and routing company Foundry Networks Inc. said its multiterabit capacity NetIron XMR series of IPv4/IPv6/MPLS Internet routers and the NetIron MLX series of metro routers now offer packet over SONET/SDH (POS) interfaces.

Foundry’s XMR and MLX SONET/SDH WAN platforms will enable service providers to deliver services across SONET/SDH and Ethernet infrastructures. The new portfolio of POS interface modules will include a variety of speeds and port densities for a range of deployment possibilities, the company said.

The POS interface modules will be generally available in April with pricing starting at $17,000 per dual-speed OC12/48 (STM-4/16) port and $68,000 per OC192 (STM-64) port. Pluggable optical transceivers also will be available in April 2007 with prices starting at $1,800 for the OC12 IR1/SR1, $2,500 for the OC48 SR1 and $4,000 for the OC192 SR1.

All routers in the series feature hardware and software resiliency, high scalability of up to 3.2tbps forwarding capacity and 2 billion packet-per-second (bpps) routing, wire speed, low-latency routing for IPv4, IPv6, MPLS and MPLS VPN services, and they support both edge and core service provider deployments, Foundry said.
