Nokia will do the initial buildout for the Sprint Nextel Corp. mobile WiMAX network in Texas.
Nokia will deploy WiMAX infrastructure, including the Nokia Flexi WiMAX Base Station, at sites throughout the markets in Austin, Dallas, Fort Worth and San Antonio. Service is expected to begin during the first half of 2008. Sprint intends to cover 100 million people with its WiMAX network by the end of next year.
Nokia also will supply its Access Service Network (ASN) Gateway and NetAct network management platform and planning, deployment and care services.
In addition to supplying Sprint with WiMAX network infrastructure, Nokia will develop WiMAX-enabled mobile devices, including multimedia computers and Internet tablets, which are expected to be available in 2008.
