ADTRAN Inc. has unveiled additions to its Ethernet in the first mile over copper (EFMC) portfolio.
The Total Access 838 is the first offering of the Total Access 800 Series Network Termination Units (NTUs). These MEF-certified devices are designed to equip carriers with the tools that provide Ethernet service delivery over existing copper infrastructure.
When combined with ADTRAN's Total Access 3000 DSLAM, the Total Access 800 Series NTU provides carriers with up to 45mbps Ethernet services over copper pairs with minimal changes in infrastructure.
"This solution, which also offers 802.3ah OAM, provides improvements in bandwidth and reliability required by metro Ethernet services," said Eric Vallone, director of product management of ADTRAN Carrier Networks Division. He said it’s designed to support a range of applications, including DSLAM and mobile backhaul.
