Hatteras Networks said Thursday it has a new agreement to provide mid-band Ethernet equipment for companies in Iceland and the United States.
Washington State-based Silver Star Telecom Inc. will use the Hatteras mid-band Ethernet platform to provide its copper lines with fiber-like capacity.
It is available to wholesale and retail customers in select markets in Oregon and Washington.
The move compliments Silver Star Telecom’s existing Ethernet offerings over DS1 and DS3 circuits and to fiber-connected locations. Silver Star Telecom provides the Ethernet service to single-site locations within its copper footprint, and can connect multiple LANs across metro boundaries to create WAN connectivity, the company said.
Silver Star Telecom offers Internet access, private line services and metropolitan area networks (MANs). The Hatteras platform also helps Silver Star Telecom provide backhaul services for WiMAX, ISPs and large enterprises, the company said.
Iceland’s largest telecom operator, Míla, will deploy the country’s first mid-band Ethernet service using Hatteras Networks’ equipment, the companies said.
Míla will use the Hatteras equipment to provide 2mbps to 45mbps metro Ethernet services where fiber is not available, the company said. Mid-band Ethernet will allow the company to offer customers traditional voice, VoIP and IPTV with support for wireless services, Míla said.
