Service providers moving into managed security services need highly scalable solutions that enable them to segment and create unique policies per customer. IBM Internet Security Systems today at the Interop show unveiled a 5gbps intrusion prevention appliance that does just that, delivering three times the performance of what the competition can, according to Greg Adams, business line executive for network solutions at IBM ISS.
The Proventia Network IPS GX6116 offers 15gbps throughput, 6gbps deep packet inspection and allows the user to preset a latency ceiling. Often service providers support intrusion protect on blade-based architectures, said Adams, but performance on solutions such as that offered by Crossbeam Systems top out at about 1gbps.
Adams noted that the IBM ISS line of intrusion prevention solutions has the intelligence and protocol support necessary to address a wide range of applications, including IMS, MMS, MPLS, VoIP and more. He explained that while competing solutions look at traffic and try to match it to known attacks, ISS uses its vulnerability-based protection capability to decrypt and analyze traffic, consider what kind of traffic it is and look for vulnerabilities.
The Proventia Network IPS GX6116 is scheduled to be available by the end of June and is priced at $188,995.
