In just two short years, there will be 850 million mobile and remote workers – a full 25 percent of workers, according to IDC. Small wonder then that mobile e-mail continues to be a battleground for the industry, the way Iowa is to presidential candidates.

At NXTComm, one more offering has been introduced to the market made famous by Blackberry: messaging expert Mirapoint and device vendor Nokia announced the Nokia Intellisync Mobile Suite for Mirapoint, which will take Mirapoint's enterprise e-mail and calendaring mobile, along with application synchronization features and full device management capabilities.

The Nokia Intellisync mobility infrastructure combines with Mirapoint's secure messaging appliances make up a security-focused business product that offers remote device locking and remote data wipe. Mirapoint's Messaging Reporter also delivers a holistic view of spam, virus and e-mail trends across the messaging network. And the Mirapoint Directory Server serves as the backbone to the messaging infrastructure providing a foundation for storing and managing message routing information, user profiles, and access privileges.

Available in the third quarter, the companies expect the focus on security to differentiate the offering from those available from Microsoft Corp., Good Technology and Blackberry.
