KPN Global Carrier Services is extending its relationship with Tekelec and is deploying additional Tekelec EAGLE 5 Integrated Signaling Systems to expand its signaling network capacity and support SIGTRAN signalling systems and next-generation architecture, the companies said.

KPN provides wholesale VoIP, signaling interconnect and value-added services. The mobile group of KPN previously deployed the EAGLE 5 ISS in its fixed network in the Netherlands as well as the Tekelec mobile number portability solution. KPN-owned Telfort also has deployed the EAGLE 5 ISS as well as network monitoring, a Tekelec Integrated Application Solutions (IAS) offering.

The Tekelec EAGLE 5 ISS supports SIGTRAN signaling, which is a stepping stone for migrating to IMS at the signaling layer. SIGTRAN provides increased capacity over IP — resulting in reduced link quantity requirements, more efficient bandwidth utilization, enhanced services and reduced transport cost.
