The FCC slapped the cableco’s wrist today for throttling P2P traffic and ordered it to come up with new “network management” practices by the end of the year. Otherwise, the agency could place an injunction or levy other regulatory penalties against Comcast.
The outcome of the vote was no surprise. Republican FCC Chairman Kevin Martin – who seems to have spent his years at the helm incubating an odd hatred for the cable industry – voted in favor of punishing Comcast, as did the two Democratic commissioners. Deborah Tate and Robert McDowell both said they see a court battle on the horizon, and Comcast didn’t disagree.
