First, the good news: Ovum has announced the global networking market topped $4 billion dollars in the second quarter of this year. That’s the second time it’s surpassed that mark in the past three quarters.

Now, the bad news: The telecom and software consulting firm is concerned about an unexpected drop in North American spending. Spending was down a little, when Ovum anticipated an increase of 10 percent. The survey indicates AT&T (T) and Sprint (S)contributed to the lackluster numbers. Tellabs (TLAB) and Cisco (CSCO) bore the brunt of the disappointing figures in North America.

Other regions around the world outperformed the company’s expectations.
