CableLabs Inc. Thursday revealed that its CEO, Dr. Richard Green, intends to retire when his current contract expires in December 2009

The group said its executive committee agreed to begin a search for a successor immediately in order to complete an orderly transition prior to Green's departure. It did not say why Green plans to retire.

“The entire industry is indebted to Dick for building and managing one of the most successful development laboratories in the country,” said Brian Roberts, chairman and CEO of Comcast Corp. (CMCSA), in prepared comments. “CableLabs has and will continue to play a critical role in our industry's success.”

Founded in 1988 by members of the cable television industry, CableLabs is a non-profit research and development consortium dedicated to “pursuing new cable telecommunications technologies and to helping its cable operator members integrate those advancements into their business objectives.” Cable operators from around the world are members.
