Eight months after its launch at the Consumer Electronics Show 2008 by CEO Brian Roberts, Comcast Corp.(CMCSA) is adding key functionality, content and interactive capabilities to its Fancast.com entertainment portal.
Embellishments include a content “store” that enables visitors to download to rent or own 3,000 titles now with a goal of 10,000 by yearend. The site plans to stream 168 TV pilots simultaneously during a fall premier week.
And beyond adding content from new sources ABC and CW, visitors can sign up for e-mail alerts when a show is playing on linear cable TV, video-on-demand, or on the web at Fancast.com.
Comcast claims the embedded media player is larger, which it hopes will drive viewing of its 5,600 free TV episodes.
In Januray, the cableco’s CEO launched the site with a goal of it becoming the premier entertainment destination on the Web. Since then, Comcast acquired and connected the assets of the Fandango movie ticketing entity and later social networking firm Plaxo to Fancast.com.
