Unless you’re William Gibson, it’s unlikely you would use the words “Chrome” and “Android” in the same sentence. If Google Inc. has its way, that soon will change.

You see, Google's new Chrome Web browser will go mobile on handsets built on the Android platform, according to Google co-founder Sergey Brin.

Not that this is shocking to a company that knows a synergy when it sees it, but it does set Google up to take on Apple Inc.’s Safari Web browser (which doesn’t support Flash and Java), along with Microsoft Corp.’s mobile Internet Explorer. The Web browser, as we move to the days of an open mobile Internet, is poised to become a big differentiator for devices.
