Although some in the industry believe 100G will have wider appeal than has its optical predecessor, 40G, Nortel (NT) reports it continues to see good success with its 40G products. The vendor today announced new wins with Alaska Communications Services and Bell Canada.
ACS is using its Nortel 40G solution to connect Alaska with the lower 48 states. Meanwhile, Bell Canada is using Nortel’s 40G gear to deliver expanded bandwidth to major Internet corridors, including the Toronto to Chicago and Montreal to New York routes. Additionally, Nortel says that over the past quarter it’s had 40G wins with Southern Cross in Australia, Rascom in Russia and Virgin Media in the U.K.
Nortel unveiled its 40G solution early this year and showed the product at the OFC/NFOEC event. The product, which became generally available in May, has been awarded more than a dozen contracts.
