The New York Public Service Commission appears to be getting tough with Verizon Communications Inc. (VZ).
Staffers have recommended that Verizon be “grounded” from installing FiOS in New York City until it can show that most of its boxes – 95 percent – in the rest of the state are installed and grounded correctly. Verizon says it's achieved 94 percent compliance in the areas it already has audited.
The commission also wants Verizon to be more straightforward with consumers – to state that the installation checkups are actually to look for safety hazards, not to do routine quality evaluations.
