Experts from the IT and telecom sectors are beginning to work on a vision and roadmap for energy efficiency this week. It’s happening at a workshop in Sunnyvale, Calif.
The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), the Silicon Valley Leadership Group (SVLG), and Emerson Network Power join Yahoo! Inc. in sponsoring this event to provide the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and others with an industry vision of the energy future for IT and communications technology. Participants are also outlining technology research pathways for achieving this vision, including appropriate roles for the federal government.
“At TIA, we’re uniquely positioned to connect industry leaders with government,” said TIA President Grant Seiffert. “We value both responsiveness and responsibility. Workshops like this one create opportunities to establish public-private partnerships and provide timely and lasting solutions for energy efficiency and other environmental areas.”
The electricity consumed in data centers and telecom systems is already 3 percent of the U.S. total and growing rapidly.
