Verizon Ticked About Post’s McCain Cell Tower Piece

People in dead zones throughout the country are calling for the erection of cellular towers wherever they are – no matter how remote or expensive. If it’s good enough for the McCains, it’s good enough for Joe the Plumber, right?

Of course, the controversy over the cellular infrastructure provided at the McCains’ Sedona, Ariz., ranch isn’t doing the Republican presidential candidate any good. And it’s obviously not great for Verizon(VZ) ─ which some believe gave the McCains special treatment ─ either.

According to a story in The Atlantic, Verizon spokesman Jeffrey Nelson responded to The Washington Post piece, which broke yesterday, saying it is “wrong” and that while Verizon studied the McCain request, it opted not to deploy a permanent tower on the property.

OK, then, could I maybe have a temporary tower set up in my back yard, Verizon? Put it over there, by the petunia bush, please.
