Cisco Systems Inc. (CSCO) announced a new edge router, the ASR 9000, earlier this week, calling it the solution for the “Zettabyte Era.” But some still consider the new Carrier Ethernet product something of a mystery.

That’s because, according to reports, Cisco failed to detail when it will deliver 400gbps of capacity per slot on the device, among other missing information.

As previously reported here, many in the industry believe the ASR 9000 could eventually replace Cisco’s 7600 and GSR 12000 lines. However, in an interview last week with xchange, Cisco denied that is the plan.
