Figuring out exactly what different companies classify as cloud computing can itself be a challenge. But comparing one provider’s cloud computing offer to another’s is an even greater task. That led IBM Corp. (IBM) this week to unveil The Resilient Cloud Validation program, which will test and offer buyers’ information about the stability, security and resiliency of cloud computing offers from hundreds of service providers.

Availability, reliability and security become more important than ever when a company moves some or all of its operations to a cloud computing environment. That’s because in the cloud computing scenario, important application software and data as well as computing power moves from the customer premises into the service provider “cloud.”
