Swiping a debit card to pay for groceries: unknown effort and unknown dollars. Using the MasterCard PayPass shortcut on that debit card: less effort and still unknown dollars. Swiping your mobile phone instead of a debit card: priceless.
At least, that’s what MasterCard (MA) hopes people will think. The credit card issuer this week unveiled an over-the-air provisioning service for its PayPass program – users have only to run their cell phones over a scanner, rather than fishing through their pockets for money, to make certain purchases.
Of course, it’ll cost you extra.
