Prison Officials Want to Jam Cell Phones, CTIA Protests

Illegal cell phone use has gotten so bad in prisons that some state officials want to employ jamming technology. Of course, wireless carriers don’t like the idea because they’ll lose revenue from minutes.

Jamming is illegal but the FCC does have authority to grant waivers to institutions on that front.

CTIA-The Wireless Association is calling for support against the jamming proposition, calling it a brazen violation of federal law. This from the group that represents companies that so willingly violated privacy rights via unconstitutional warrantless wiretapping.
