Remember when the Senate Commerce Committee was fun? We got to hear crazy utterings like, “The Internet is a series of tubes!”
But things turned boring when Sen. Daniel Inouye, D-Hawaii, took over from Sen. Ted Stevens, R-Alaska, as chairman.
Perhaps the committee — which oversees all things communications, including the FCC — will liven up at last. Reports are circulating this week that Sen. John Rockefeller, D-W.V., will replace Inouye. (Inouye is moving to another committee.) Rockefeller is said to be passionate about broadband deployment, privacy issues and long walks on the beach ... kidding on that last one.
Anyway, matters can never be dull with a Rockefeller involved, right? Here’s hoping.
