Sprint Nextel (S) has tapped technology from Blue Coat Systems Inc. for its new managed WAN and managed security services, Secure WAN Acceleration and Secure Web Protection.
“WAN Acceleration and Web Protection are critical components for enterprise customers and government organizations,” said Dan Dooley, president of Wireline, Sprint. “Our customers are looking to Sprint to help them manage network complexity and Internet threats, so that they can operate their businesses more efficiently. With Blue Coat appliances and software solutions, we can offer customers the content and application acceleration, Web security and policy control they need.”
Last week Sprint announced its new managed security service, Sprint Secure Web Protection, to provide businesses with content filtering and Web protection from a variety of Internet threats on Sprint Dedicated Internet Access and Global IP/MPLS services.
Available immediately, the premises-based security solution is powered by Blue Coat System’s ProxySG appliances and WebFilter software. Premises-based Web Protection also can be paired with Sprint Secure WAN Acceleration for greater network optimization.
Sprint’s WAN acceleration offering was rolled out in mid-October. Through a combination of application visibility, management and tuning technologies, such as bandwidth management, protocol optimization, caching and compression, Sprint Secure WAN Acceleration enables enterprises and organizations control over WAN traffic, so that business-critical applications are accelerated while malicious or unwanted traffic is stopped and unimportant traffic managed or mitigated. Additionally, it can be paired with Sprint's MPLS VPN solution for additional efficiency.
Blue Coat solutions enable a single, integrated platform for application delivery. The same ProxySG appliances deployed in a customer’s facility can provide WAN acceleration, Web security and policy control. Similarly, ProxyClient software for laptop computers provides a combination of application and file acceleration, along with centrally-managed Web filtering and malware protection for those working remotely.
