VoxOx Goes After Skype

Voice-enabled Web apps got a Star Trek-ish boost on Monday with the release of the “universal communicator,” a beta functionality from VoxOx for free VoIP and access to enhanced IP services like video chat, SMS/e-mail/IM, and social networking. No word on whether users can call for a beam-up to the Enterprise.

VoxOx plans to go after the Skype user market, only improving its competitive position by aggregating a whole host of other functions — a move that fits in with the snowballing idea of creating a sort of communications concierge service. A Web version is now in beta, but mobility is part of it too: there’s a mobile Web version already out there and VoxOx is planning an iPhone application.
