Fiber carrier AboveNet, Inc. today launched jabNET, a new high-bandwidth service for the community of content creators who need to quickly share their production efforts with often far flung members of the motion picture and television industries.

With the number of iterations needed to perfect visually rich content such as special effects soaring, jabNET provides a community-type network that enables specialized production teams to quickly and securely share their creative outputs across diverse geographical locations.

The goal of jabNET is to speed the movie and TV production process to keep pace with fast changing demands of the industries.

"When working with one of the members of the jabNET community, a producer can save days and even weeks of finance charges by moving production elements across the jabNET," said Anthony Magliocco, director of Media Products at AboveNet, in prepared comments. "Elements no longer need to wait to be copied and packaged on hard drives and sent via couriers or truck from location to location. jabNET community members just make a few clicks and the files are moving at Gigabit per second speeds.”

With jabNET, AboveNet claims, creative teams no longer need to look at tiny images sent over the Web for collaboration and approvals. They can now be viewed in high definition on giant screens enabling interactive review and approval sessions.

The company did not provide a pricing framework or specific pricing for the service.

AboveNet provides fiber services for business and carriers and says its private optical network delivers services in and among 14 top U.S. metro markets and London.
