Following similar moves by rival cable operators attacking its SMB flank, AT&T Inc. (T) is leveraging its residential services delivery network to provide high-speed Internet services to businesses.

AT&T Business Solutions unit today announced availability of Business U-verse, which includes an 18 mbps Internet offering provided over its U-verse residential services platform in over 70 U.S. markets.

The telco did not say if or when it may offer additional services over its U-verse network, now in 16 states, to small businesses.

AT&T said its U-verse High Speed Internet Business Edition can serve up to 50 Internet user connections in the customer’s business, depending on the applications needed, and offers static IP address options so that firms can host their own domain.

AT&T Business U-verse also offers subscribers free, unlimited access to the company’s nationwide Wi-Fi network comprising more than 17,000 Wi-Fi hot spots nationwide, free wireless networking, e-mail storage and online protection packages, including anti-spyware, anti-virus, pop-up blocker and SpamGuard Plus.

The company offers several speed tiers for AT&T Business U-verse, ranging from as little as $40 a month up to $85 a month when bundled with wired or wireless voice services. At this time, the company is waiving installation charges for AT&T Business U-verse, which AT&T claims is a $95 value.

Prices for static IP address packages range from $15 to $40 per month, and customers can purchase them in blocks, starting with as few as eight addresses and up to as many as 128 addresses.
