Mobile might save the consumer electronics sector’s Christmas if it’s lucky, but Best Buy for one is banking on the dogged resiliency of handset sales for the long-term, too. The retail juggernaut says wireless will be a big part of its salvation in down economic times.
The company reported that it has seen ongoing and impressive growth in smartphones, and is tackling the space by giving its sales associates the tools they need to be a trusted advisor for the potential phone shopper. The biggest obstacle to new sales is customer confusion about comparing devices, the retail juggernaut said.
Accordingly, the company has invested more than $10 million for an employee education effort covering features, plans, and accessories for the vast panoply of handsets it carries.
